Nails. I haven't had them since...well lets think....I don't think I have ever had nails. Well, since last Saturday when I got nails. Fake ones. I decided that my addiction to biting my nails was getting a bit ridiculous. How unattractive it is to see a young lady sitting there with her fingers in her mouth biting away at those filthy nails. So I took a trip to the nail salon and got acrylics put on - short ones. What a new experience this has been. I feel like I am a little child working on making a developmental milestone. I am relearning how to do everything with my hands. I can't put socks on without getting frustrated. I can not zip up my jeans. I tried picking up a dime off the floor at school the other day and after a minute ended up having a student do it for me. I can't open medicine bottles with out a struggle. Child proof - blah. Nail proof. Typing and writing has been successful but a little awkward. The only advantage that I have discovered of having nails is being able to itch my head and wash my hair:) We will see how this having nails thing goes. My plan is to try and break my habit of biting my nails by keeping acrylics on for a few months. As of right now, I am ready to take them of. I have never been more aware of my hands ever. They feel like they have a constant pulse. Silly I know, but I am sure those who engage in biting their nails can relate.
Along with having "fancy pretty" nails, I had another new experience this week. I opened up my competitiveness side to the whole student body and faculty at the middle school where I teach. I was semi-forced to play in a staff verse 8th grade student basketball game this past Thursday. Oh man!!! I wasn't particularly excited about this but I knew it was a good way to participate as a staff member within the building. After suiting up in an old school girls basketball uniform that was way to small, I was ready to play. During warm ups, I think I was 2 for 20 on making baskets. I once had this love for the game of basketball, but it has been years since I have engaged in an organized game of bball. Since my paraprofessional and one other teacher on the team were the only ones to ever play before, we were in for it. We were expected to carry the team - yeah right. One of the starting 5 - yes! Oh boy! As the game went on, I quickly learned how OUT OF SHAPE I AM. I could barely run up and down the court. I did it though. With that, my true competitive personality began to shine through. It was like I was back in high school again, playing the game that I loved so much. I do not think the staff at my school new I had so much determination in me. I was there to win. Though the teachers managed to be down by a point at the half, it was a great time. It was a good step for me within the school. It was also fun for my students to see a side of me that they had never seen before. They were my biggest fans in the stands:)

What a good way to start the week.......
It is always a plus in the morning when I have a nice cold diet Mountain Dew in the refrigerator to enjoy on my way to work.
Once I reach my job (school), usually within the first hour I can predict how the rest of the day is going to go....This past Monday was one of my students 13th birthdays (she is a teenager now - "no more Kids Cusines," she has reminded me of this over the last month). I was anticipating my Monday to be off due to the excitement of this particular student's milestone into the teenage years. First words out of her this morning "Ms. Wisinski, I am a TEENAGER. No more milk for me." I am not really sure why she has decided as she has turned 13 she no longer can drink milk for breakfast or at lunch (she is probably trying to find an excuse to get her mom and teachers to let her drink pop more often).
It surprises me over and over again how much I love my job. Yes it is exhausting at times and overwhelming (just like any other job), but at night I can always look back on my day and have so many positive stories to reminisce about. My students bring joy to my life. Each day they teach me to be who I am. They think I teach them as their teacher but they teach me so much about life. My students don't let their disabilities hinder their love for life. They remind me each day to life live and love myself. I thank them for that - I hope one day they will realize that.:)
"ok, boss."
"I will stay focused." (I hear this atleast 15 times a day)
"I can not talk about DS anymore." (I hear this atleast 20 times a day)
"Ellen, I am on my period. I can't wash tables."
"ummm hummmm. What does uuuuummmm hummmm mean? What? Don't ummmm yummm me. What is uuummmm hmmmm."
I love these people......I'm out!

New to This
I am not really sure I know what I am doing here. I didn't know much about blogging until a co-worker of mine shared her interest in it. After enjoying reading her blogs and literally laughing out loud over them, I decided I need to get on the page with blogging. Could be very therapeutic for me, as I am told by more than one person. I have a job that can be quite entertaining (and exhausting) at times - I thought it would be fun to share of some of the "Days in the life of Nichole" with my family and friends.
So I am not really sure where to start with this all. A little about me.....I guess. I'm getting old (26 closer to 30 than 20 - blah), I have a cat named Harvey who I love - he is my soul:), I live for reruns of 90210, I love to eat, I live with my best friend Jess (in her condo - yeah she is younger than me and already has a mortgage - i'm still paying rent), I teach middle school students with Autism - I love them all, I have 2 brothers - one older and one younger, I have a sister-in-law and a wonderful new Nephew who I love more than anything (I will be his favorite, forever!), I have the best mother anyone could ask for, I love getting mail, I suck at Spelling, I am a sucker for old school and new cheesy scary movies, my soul mate lives in tc :( taking baths and drinking wine is my therapy, I love the color green, I do not like doing laundry or making my bed, I love honey mustard - the really yellowish kind, I am a huge Michigan fan!, I love playing yahoo games with Coley, I am addicted to Diet Mountain Dew and biting my nails, I love to snuggle, I love my job (I have two great co-workers - thank you for making my days go easier - I couldn't survive without them)...and I love laughing to the point that your abs hurt (that's about as much working out as my abs get so its good when I laugh).
I'm out!
